Power supplies are also capable of operating from a DC input, usually somewhere within the range 40 to 72 Vdc. The 48 Vdc-input versions are primarily designed for telecom, computing, storage, networking and datacom applications, and provide colocation centers with a very flexible means of addressing their evolving power needs. They are mechanically identical or pin-for-pin compatible with their AC-input counterparts, enabling users to switch easily from an AC to a DC supply infrastructure.
